The past two weeks I have been playing around with lots of things I've pinned and bookmarked but haven't had a chance to check out during the school year. One of the things I've been dying to try is Remind101 for iPhones. It is a text generator app that allows you to send reminder texts to parents without them having your number! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It rocks! Here's how it works:
Download the app and create a class for yourself.
If you teach upper elementary/middle/high school, you can make as many classes as you want to and you can use it to remind students of things.
Give out your information.
Remind101 will give you a phone number to share with parents/students. All they have to do is send a text to that number with your class name and they will automatically be enrolled in text reminders! If you would like to see what it looks like when a parent enrolls, text @misseager to my number!
Parents can choose to enroll or not, but once you see how many parents join, you can see how much you can use this as a resource for communicating with parents!
You can also text individuals (for example: just your "room parents", just parents that volunteered for something, etc).
With Remind101, parents can't text back. It simply serves the purpose of providing a quick reminder. Imagine how many little slips of paper you could save (and not to mention-- time!) Download it, play around with it and see how it could fit into your classroom this fall!
